UMD Ranks 18th in Peace Corps' 2015 Top Colleges List
The University of Maryland ranked 18th in the Peace Corps’ 2015 list of top volunteer-producing colleges. This ranking was a significant improvement from it’s 23rd ranking in 2013.
The University of Maryland made this list for the fifth year in a row, producing 38 Peace Corps volunteers working across the globe this past year.
“Since the Peace Corps inception in 1961, nearly 1,191 UMD graduates have traveled abroad to serve as volunteers,” said UMD student Alana Carchedi, in an article.
The Peace Corps provides individuals who have an interest in traveling and serving the community with an opportunity to do work anywhere in the world as needed.
Young people can “make lasting change by living and working at the grassroots level in their communities of service and using their talents to tackle some of the most critical challenges in international development,” said Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet.
The University of Washington topped the list with 72 volunteers in 2014, followed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Florida with 69 and 66 volunteers, respectively.
