6 Reasons Why May Is Going To Be The Best Month In Entertainment In 2015

By Elana Goodwin on April 28, 2015

The month of May is shaping up to be pretty much the best ever.

Between the new movies hitting theaters this month and the albums slated for release, (plus, of course, those who are graduating getting their diplomas), the month ahead is chock-full of goodies.

1. To kick off the month of May, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” hits theaters May 1, and it’s guaranteed to break box office records. The Avengers gang is back and has to step in to save the world again when Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man) tries to reboot a cast aside peacekeeping program and things don’t go as planned.

The movie, like the other Marvel movies in its family, will be a mix of action, adventure, sci-fi, and of course jammed with some quippy one-liners.

The film’s got an all-star cast consisting of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, James Spader, Samuel L. Jackson, and other famous faces and names.

2. Next, a new action-comedy movie, “Hot Pursuit,” will be released on May 8, starring Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon. The film follows an incompetent police officer (Witherspoon) whose assignment is to protect a drug dealer’s widow (Vergara) from criminals and dirty cops.

Think “The Heat” but without the incomparable Melissa McCarthy and the buddy-cop aspect mixed with “The Hangover”-style antics only with women on the run.

3. The pitch is back. That’s right, “Pitch Perfect 2,” the much anticipated comedy/music sequel to the highly successful 2012 film will hit theaters on May 15. The several trailers released promise a hilarious movie and awesome soundtrack that will get you singing.

The premise of the film is basically that after an incident involving Fat Amy and the President of the U.S., the Barden Bellas are suspended and their only hope of being reinstated is to win an a cappella world championship competition, that an American group has never won before.

The stars from the first movie are back, along with some new faces, and the cast includes Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, Hailee Steinfeld, and Elizabeth Banks. Get ready to be pitch-slapped.

4. Tomorrow never looked so cool as in the trailers for the new adventure/mystery/sci-fi film “Tomorrowland” from Disney, which comes out on May 22.

Basically, a former boy genius (George Clooney) and a fresh-faced teen embark on an adventure and mission to uncover the mysteries of a place called “Tomorrowland” that exists somewhere in time and space and has the capacity to change the world.

A simple and uncomplicated premise, right? Yeah, I don’t quite understand the plot fully yet either but based on the trailers, the movie looks awesome, interesting, and action-packed, plus it’s got an all-star cast.

The film stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, and Keegan-Michael Key.

5. Emerging from their hiatus are Mumford and Sons, who will be releasing their third studio album “Wilder Mind” on May 4.

Their first two albums, 2009′s “Sigh No More” and 2012′s “Babel” both were huge successes, with “Babel” winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. After their 2012-2013 tour, the band announced they were taking a break for a while, and there wouldn’t be any Mumford and Sons activities “for the forseeable future.”

Now, after more than two years away, Mumford and Sons are back, and have already released the singles “Believe,” “The Wolf,” and “Snake Eyes” from their upcoming album, which will depart from their usual folksy sound and venture into more electric territory.

6. Another band is also returning to the music scene as Lifehouse is releasing their first new album since their 2012 album “Almeria.” Lifehouse’s new album called “Out of the Wasteland,” will be released on May 26. The record will feature the singles “Hurricane,” “Flight” and “Wish.”

The band, who released their first album back in 2000, is best known for their hit songs “Hanging By A Moment,” “You and Me,” “First Time,” and “Whatever It Takes.”

“Out of the Wasteland” will be the band’s seventh studio album, and brings the band out of their hiatus.

So mark your calendars and get ready to spend a few afternoons or evenings in a movie theater and prepare yourself for the awesome new movies and albums coming out in May.
