7 Important Apartment Entertainment Amenities for College Students

By Alexandra Brown on June 16, 2015

Living in the dorms was a great time and all (meeting best friends, not having to grocery shop, and being in close quarters with a bunch of students sharing the same experiences) but moving off campus as an upperclassman, and getting to be more independent is always exciting for college students.

They can throw (moderately sized and responsible) parties without having to worry about RA’s, they don’t have to eat cafeteria food every single day, and they can live with people they know well instead of being assigned a roommate.

In addition to these perks, living in apartments offers college students access to certain entertainment amenities they most likely didn’t have while living in the dorms.

Here are 7 apartment entertainment amenities essential to college students.

1. Pool

An apartment amenity that will most likely always be attractive to college students is a pool. Whether it’s indoor or outdoors, having a pool will instantly make an apartment complex more inviting and will probably serve as the deal breaker when students choose between an apartment with a pool and without a pool.

Pools allow for college students to have social gatherings, they’re good for relaxing, and they’re an overall top priority for students.

2. Workout room

With all of the late-night snacking and drinking that college students do, working out is a must in order to not gain a lot of weight very quickly.

Another extremely popular apartment amenity for college students is a workout room. It doesn’t even have to be luxurious or have a variety of machines. Simply having a few treadmills and floor space to do core workouts would be ideal.

Maybe students had dorms in close quarters with the student recreation center, or a short walk away, but living off campus in an apartment does not allow for physical fitness to be a number one priority. Because of this, having a workout room in the apartment complex is very attractive to college students.

They’re able to take a quick break from studying, or simply take a short workout without even having to leave the building. With convenience like this, there’s no way they can avoid staying fit!

3. Balcony/sundeck

Another apartment entertainment amenity attractive to college students is a balcony or rooftop sundeck. In addition to a pool, this amenity allows for outdoor social gatherings.

Having a balcony or a rooftop sundeck also allows for the student to be able to step outside on a nice day, maybe do some homework outside instead of being cooped up inside the apartment, and enjoy beautiful weather. They also allow for great views that aren’t available from apartments without outdoor spaces like these.

4. Hot tub/Jacuzzi

Much like having a pool available on site, having a hot tub or Jacuzzi, most likely near the pool, is a lot of fun for college students. In winter months, they can be used when the pool can’t. They’re also fun for social gatherings among friends.

If the apartment complex doesn’t include a hot tub or Jacuzzi near the pool area or if there isn’t a pool area, having one in the unit would also be ideal. This would mean as opposed to a regular bathtub.

5. Basketball courts

College students love their basketball, which is why any apartment complex with courts to play would be instantly attractive to them.

If the complex is located further away from the student recreation center or a public park, having courts is essential and they would most definitely not go to waste.

6. Park space

Whether it’s an actual public park, or just green space, an apartment that can offer an outdoor area like this is especially appealing to college students.

Park space can be used for biking, depending on how much space there is, it can be used for various sports, for picnics, grilling food and having social gatherings, and it also makes for a nice view from the apartment complex itself.

7. Lobby bar

Although it is rare to find such an entertainment amenity as a bar in the lobby of most off campus housing on a college campus, it does happen occasionally.

For obvious reasons (college students love to drink and party) an apartment complex with a bar in the lobby would probably be the most ideal living situation they could find.

Going out and having a great time on campus is always a lot of fun, but for those cold or rainy nights, when no one wants to leave the pre-game, there would be no better news for a college student than hearing there is a bar in the lobby.

Having an entertainment amenity like this is not only enjoyable for the students living in the building, but it brings students to the location, and acts as its own advertising strategy.
