Pros: She is the best professor I've had at Maryland. Very nice, and knows everything there is to know about what she is teaching. She is SO organized, and makes sure that you understand the material and get the notes down. She writes on the board as she talks about what she is writing, so you have time to write and you don't feel frazzled because you're trying to write some powerpoint info down or something super fast while the teacher talks about something different. That's what I love about her. Totally different from that and in a really good, helpful way. She is also ALWAYS available for help. She gets your projects and exams back to you super fast, a lot of the time within the same day. You will learn a LOT in this class, and even if you don't think you'll find the material interesting, Professor Brooks makes it interesting. ALSO, she gives a BUNCH of open note extra credit quizzes all throughout the semester, each worth one point.
Cons: The only cons I can think of is that there are 4 computer assignments that you have to complete on your own time, but they aren't hard, and she explains everything down to the very last command so there's no reason you shouldn't get a 100% on all of them.

Pros: --Great professor/ presents material in a very easy way to understand
--uses blackboard instead of powerpoints
--6 total guest speakers
--repeats important information
--gives out a book study guide
Cons: --sometimes the book readings can get dense
If you get all of the class notes and actually read the chapters and take notes, the exams are a breaze. Also, the guest speakers were an awesome part of the class. I'm thinking about TAing for this class so I can be there for the guest speakers. She has daily quizzes at the end of each lecture, but they are really easy if you took notes during class (they are open note).

This class is made much more difficult than it needs to be. You basically have to go to class everyday because she gives a quiz. But I think if it was not at 10 am i would have enjoyed it more. For exams you must read the book.

Dr. Brooks is one of the best professors I've had at Maryland. Her lectures are very interesting, as are the numerous guest speakers she invites during the semester. She is always in her office and always willing to help. There's plenty of extra credit, so it's hard to do poorly. She's not kidding when she tells you to read the book though...there's lots of questions from the book on the exams. Also, take notes during the guest speakers, questions from them will be on exams.
