she just talks and the class writes/types
Cons: There are two tests and final
Write everything Dr. Brown discusses in class even names of people in stories and anecdotes that feel like tangents.
Cons: The exams are poorly written. You have to take down notes on everything she says. There are no powerpoints.
Cons: none; she's great!
Cons: None that I can think of!
Cons: Tests were 100 multiple choice questions and although open notes, some were subjective since there were so many and not that much material.
Cons: have to go to class to get the material and examples!
No work outside of lecture
Awesome profesor, really easy
Cons: Need to be in class for "labs"
Exams are based on old notes
If you read the TerpNotes, you will get an A. If not, you probably will get an A.
Cons: you have to go to class she has "labs" randomly and you have to turn them in for credit
Love her! fun, interesting, makes you want to go to class
Not difficult
Willing to help you in office hours
Not as bad as the first day makes her seem.
Cons: Doesn't teach as much about sports as she does about her family
Hard to get a hold of for office hours if you have a busy schedule
No lecture notes
No textbook
If you are a visual learner, this class is NOT FOR YOU
The first day in the class, I thought she was "one of those teachers". I thought, I'll try one more class, but I think I'm going to drop this class. Turns out that's not the case at all. I think she does that on purpose the first day to scare anyone off who's not serious about sports. But after the first day, you realize she is a kind, funny, and enjoyable teacher. The problem I have is that half (or, Most) of the class, she doesn't spend taking about sports - she spends it talking about her family. There are even questions on her tests which are about how many kids she has and what their names are. They are supposed to be "easy points" but it is a waste of otherwise possible learning about sports. As a result, I didn't learn a lot about sports in the class. I did learn about her life, but I don't care about her life, I came to learn about sports. Her class gave me no challenges, sometimes I found myself drifting off when she talked about her life instead of sports. I didn't take the class to learn about her life. I hardly learned anything about sports and was disappointed.
Bottom line: If you want to goof off the whole class and not learn about sports, just make sure you come to class. But don't get sick! She will not be understanding if you miss class due to being sick, because she grades on whether or not you were there, rather than if you actually learned anything (because there is not much to learn, except about her life and her family). Also make sure you listen to her life story or you won't get an A on the tests. Also, if you are a visual learner, this class is NOT FOR YOU; there are no textbooks or anything to study what's on the test. Probably because no one writes a textbook about her life and her kids, which is most of the class.
