Probably one of the best chemistry lecturers I ever had, he's not only funny and engaging but also a very fair professor. Pretty much everything on his tests are covered in his lectures; he will never put trick questions or totally uncovered material although sometimes he might skim over a few minor points which you should try to follow up on later. Again, the best advice is to NOT SKIP CLASS. He does often go off on tangential little stories about orgo, but your notes are the key to getting a good grade on his tests. You're expected to memorize the structures he draw on the board, so make sure to copy those. He has extra credit clicker questions every day, and I use those to gauge how well I am keeping up with his class.
As for his personality, Falvey's pretty friendly and has great stories. He memorizes people he notices and will call on you on a first-name basis, but isn't bothered if you don't know the answer. I got an A, but I'd say you still have to study for it. I actually learned a decent amount of material for orgo- more than my chem231 class- so it's a good trade. And imo, it's probably one of the best out there. :)

Pros: Teaches step by step and provides many resources for out of class practice like old exams and worksheets
Cons: His lectures are somewhat unorganized sometimes but it usually doesn't get in the way of him getting his points across

Pros: -very enthusiastic about the material he's teaching and tries to make class exciting rather than just a boring lecture
-likes to relate orgo material to real world situations and likes to send out articles on the chemistry we learn in class that is relative to current events
Cons: -likes to call on people during class to stir up a discussion so if you definitely should be paying attention in lecture and know whats going on in the class
gives a nice curve at the end of the course. his tests are fair and are based off/similar to old exams so practicing with those will be a great help.

Pros: He is somewhat entertaining during lecture and does include a lot of relevant topics in the pharmaceutical industry.
Cons: He simply re-uses his old exams from past semesters which aren't relevant anymore seeing as they were based on the material from an old orgo textbook the class used to use.

The practice problems are what you need in order to do well. If you know how to do all the practice problems, you are guaranteed an A on the test

Dr. Falvey is a good professor. He is fair in his exams and is willing to help you if you go into his OH. I didn't really have many complaints about his teaching.

Falvey was a great Orgo II professor! The exams were directly from lecture and he always gave review sheets that had about 60% of the exact same questions on the exam. Definitely take him for Orgo 2!

Pros: CHEM241 is a really difficult class, no matter what professor you have. However, if Falvey is available, I would recommend him. He's the most fair orgo professor I've encountered and wants his students to succeed. He does, however, expect a lot of his students
