Be Productive with Internet Quizzes

By Maggie DeBlasis on April 17, 2014

As finals season approaches and the weather gets warmer (although this is Maryland, so who knows when spring will actually come), the level of productivity tends to go down. Like, way down. But since you have so much to do, wasting even a moment of time to take a breath is unproductive.

Take that well-deserved breath.  Here are some websites with those quizzes that are all the rage now. Some are helpful to time consumption, some are hurtful, but all of them are fun.

Buzzfeed

Ahh, the Holy Grail of Facebook quizzes. Not only are their lists admirable to say the least, but their quiz stock is pretty on par. Their quizzes vary anywhere from Who Said What: The Pope Vs. Lord Voldemort? to How Smart Are You? Not to mention that some of their quiz questions have hilarious answers. The results are also surprisingly adept.

Zimbio

The other site popular amongst the Facebook crowd. Known for their quizzes that let you know which TV or movie character you are, the quizzes here are almost completely related to or revolve around the entertainment industry and pop culture. Granted, the main Zimbio site boasts “entertainment news, the largest celebrity photo collection, movies, TV, music & polls for the pop culture obsessed.” So it makes sense.

Sporcle

Sporcle spotlights five different quizzes every day, so you can always find something different to distract you from studying. Or you can use some of the quizzes to help you study. While quizzes titled NFL Teams and Commonest English Words are in the ranks of most popular, the top three are geography-based. There are science, literature and language categories to use as study guides. A word for the wise, though: most quizzes are submitted by users and put live before being thoroughly checked, so be wary with which ones you use to study.

The Oatmeal

If you want mindless clicking and answering of silly questions, this is the site to go to. Actually though. Buzzfeed and Zimbio hold nothing to the randomness of these quizzes. How long could you survive chained to a Bunk Bed with a Velociraptor? The Zombie Bite Calculator? The only negative side of these quizzes is that there are only a dozen or so of them. Then again, the site has more than enough comics to distract, I mean, entertain you in your free time.

Mental Floss

Run by the people who publish the magazine by the same name, the quizzes on this site are a little more intelligent. There’s no “What type of South Park Character are you?” on here. Here, there is the Famous Middle Initials and the Wonderlic Quiz, which is used to assess job candidates and is sometimes administered to football draft members. So, feel like a quarterback and Einstein prodigy at the same time. Who knows, maybe you’ll find out the answer to that question that’s stumped you in Econ.
