Sylly Week Round Two

By Jess Nocera on January 26, 2015

Winter break is officially over and spring break is months away. For most UMD students this means the hours of binge watching show after show on Netflix is over and instead their lives are taken over by papers, quizzes, exams and hours in Club McKeldin.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. The so-called second greatest week of the year is here, the one and only: Sylly Week.

Sylly week, more appropriately known as syllabus week, comes along in the beginning of both college semesters. It’s during the first week of classes where students hope that in each class their professor’s just hand out the syllabi and cancel the rest of class. For some students this dream comes true and for others they soon learn that they shouldn’t have procrastinated getting their textbooks.

But no matter if they have schoolwork or not, many college students still celebrate the nightlife aspect of Sylly week. After being home for weeks on end and missing all your college friends, Sylly week gives students a chance to catch up with friends and not on sleep.

Syllabus week only comes twice a year and it needs to be handled taken seriously. Before you know it, going out with friends in below freezing temperatures will get old. Or worse, you will realize that amazing schedule you created the semester before was actually the worst schedule you have ever created as you find yourself constantly drowning in work and seriously wondering why a coffee IV has not been invented yet.
