Ideas and innovation are a “many-splendored thing.” It proves a very freeing point: Anything you think up, you can create. And, it just might be so awesome that people will pay a pretty penny to try it out. Millennials just like you and me are creating awesome products that could revolutionize the way we handle biomaterials, control sound, and light up the world.

Here are seven awesome products that caught my attention:

BioBots is focused on the future with its high resolution desktop 3D printers that develop living tissue. By using 3D components primarily intended for plastics manufacturers, BioBots produces a bioprinter that is less expensive — around $10,000 each. So far, the printer is being used to produce lung and heart tissue as well as bone. While bioprinting is nothing new, the possibilities are endless. Perhaps, one day, we’ll be able to cure cancer and deliver heart transplants.

Vital Vio, the brainchild of biomedical engineering student Colleen Costello, uses white-light technology to fight bacteria in sensitive environments such as hospitals and healthcare facilities. LED white light disinfects indoor surfaces by targeting a molecule specific to bacteria and mold. Unlike UV light that must be used in ranges, the lights from Vital Vio are harmless to humans and can run continuously.

Doppler Labs aims to change the way we hear our environment. Its sound-processing earbuds lets the wearer control what flows into the ears by way of sound. One can decrease a less desirable sound while increasing a more desirable sound at the touch of a button on Doppler’s mobile app.

While Getaround isn’t a product, it still caught my attention. Think of it like an upgrade to rental car services with a major focus on reducing carbon emissions. This peer-to-peer sharing platform lets vehicle owners rent their cars out to others on an hourly or daily basis. Yes, they have a fleet of cars and thousands of users and they’re helping car owners defray vehicle costs while making money and helping the environment. Pretty good deal, I think.

LuminAid is a rechargeable, solar-powered, inflatable LED lantern that is perfect for hikers and mountain climbers, and considered a lifesaver in natural disasters. It is a really cool piece of gear that is supported by a very strong social mission. While perfect for fun trips, more than that, it has been deployed to assist in relief efforts after major hurricanes, typhoons and earthquakes.

Swift Navigation is focused on making GPS technology beneficial to the automated vehicle and robotics industries. While many current GPS devices only go so far in accuracy, Swift’s product, Piksi, aims for high level precision at a not so expensive cost.

PillPack is changing the way we think about taking our medications and takes the hassle out of it too. This online pharmacy coordinates refills for its customers, is free to use, and easy to transfer doctor’s prescriptions to the program. With a growing number of Americans taking more pills every year, it is no secret that PillPack is a miracle.
