12 Gifts Every Student Wants

By Ashley Paskill on December 17, 2017

College is tough, but winter break is an opportunity to take a break and unwind from the stress. This time is also a time of gift giving, and there are things that most college kids would love to receive.

1. Sleep

College is filled with classes, assignments, and extra-curricular activities. Unfortunately, this leaves very little time for sleep. While it is not good to sleep all day, every day of break, college kids need a few days to catch up on sleep and sleep in.

2. Experiences

While tangible items are nice, many college students want to be able to do things such as try new experiences or travel. Gift cards or cash for these things can mean so much, especially if it is something you can do together.

3. Quality food

Dining hall food and late-night food runs can be fun, but there is truly nothing like a home-cooked meal. College kids have been away from their family’s cooking and their favorite food, so they will want to fill up on classic family recipes.

4. Good grades

College kids work hard during the semester and waiting for their final grades can be brutal, especially if their professors did not post grades throughout the semester. All these students want is the satisfaction of good grades, showing that their hard work paid off.

5. Finished laundry

Among everything else, college students have to find time to do laundry. While it may seem small, it can eat up a lot of time and can be tedious. Help your student out by offering to help with their laundry, at least once or twice, while they are home for break.

6. To not be asked a million and one questions

Holidays are notorious for family gatherings where students are asked a gazillion questions about their lives. “Are you in a relationship?” “When are you graduating?” and “Do you have a job or internship?” are just a few of these questions, and they get super tedious and annoying to keep answering.

7. Time with loved ones

Being away from friends and family can be tough. While college students have friends on campus, nothing can replace those back home.

8. Money

Let’s face it- college is expensive. From tuition and books to food and living expenses, students are notorious for living off ramen noodles to save money. Having extra money to go towards expenses or to splurging on something special can mean so much to a student.

9. Shows to binge watch

Students do not always have a ton of time to relax and watch TV. When they do, they often feel guilty, thinking they can be doing something productive. Allowing your student to have time to relax and binge watch TV can help them relieve stress.

10. The car

Being home will make the student get cabin fever after a while. They will want to go out and visit stores and restaurants they have been away from for a while. Allow them time to take a drive to go to the places they have been longing to return to.

11. Permission to be lazy

College kids work hard and this often causes a lot of stress and anxiety. They deal with a lot of things when they are off at school. Allowing your student a few days to lounge around to do nothing will help them unwind from a hectic semester.

12. Words of love and support

College can take a toll on a college student’s physical and mental health. They work hard, but sometimes classes get the best of them and they are not always successful. Knowing that they have someone who loves them and supports them unconditionally can make a huge difference.
