When considering all the items that you’ll need for your dorm room or apartment, it’s easy to get stressed. That being said, the last thing on your mind may be the décor you will use to make your space feel like home.

Rather than letting such information slip your mind, below are six fall décor items that you should get for your coming college experience.

1. Halloween Décor

Halloween is coming up pretty quickly, and some of the best fall décor happens to be Halloween themed. Whether you are all about the creepy crawlies or haunted home goods, or even if you’re simply a fan of pumpkin everything, there are plenty of options out there for Halloween décor.

All stores begin carrying Halloween items around September, which helps give you a head start on your decorations. While you don’t need to overdo it, a few nice Halloween items here and there will get the job done. Just make sure you set a budget before you begin your shopping, because it’s easy to get carried away!

2. Thanksgiving Décor

Rounding out the fall holidays, Thanksgiving décor is also important come November. While there are fewer options than with Halloween decorations, there are still quite a few options for your Thanksgiving celebration and decorating.

If you play it smart, you can purchase some pumpkins that can be repurposed for both holidays, or, if you have more money to spend, you can allot another budget for a few Thanksgiving specific decorations for your space. Whichever way you go, your dorm room or apartment is going to be festive throughout all of the fall holidays.

3. Throw Blankets

Fall is a tricky season in that it can be warm one day and cold the next, and the temperatures only drop over time. For this reason, when you are thinking about fall décor for your space, you should be considering items that will keep you comfy and cozy throughout the fall months.

One of the best items that you can purchase in this category is a throw blanket. These are great for tossing on couches and chairs to add a pop of color and a bit of décor to a room, but they are also practical. Not only do they add some decoration, but they also keep you warm.

4. Plants

As the leaves outside begin to change and the colors of fall fade away, you should ensure that you have some greenery in your life. While this is a bit tricky, as not all plants will survive the cold weather, bringing in some houseplants that require little direct sunlight is a great idea.

Not only are plants known for improving health, but they are also a nice pop of color and give off a homey feel, so they are a great addition to any living space. Just make sure you choose one that can survive in a house throughout the fall!

5. Outdoor Décor

While we have focused so far on indoor décor, you should also consider the décor that you have outside your living space. Don’t limit yourself to the inside decorations, and make sure the outside of your space is just as welcoming.

For instance, lights for Halloween or other outdoor décor can look festive and nice, otherwise, keeping a general “fall” feeling, such as with a festive wreath, can be a simple décor idea that gives your space the oomph that it needs.

6. Welcome Mat

In line with outdoor décor, you should also have a welcome mat. While many individuals leave one outside their door, it’s more effective to leave these welcome mats just inside the door of your living space.

Not only can these provide some festive, fall décor options, but they can also prevent fall weather from ruining the floors in your space. Keep the rain, leaves and other elements outside the space by using a floor mat in the space that individuals can come in, wipe their shoes on and keep everything off the main living spaces with.

Again, just a little practical décor can go a long way!

Fall is such an important time of year, and it’s the first to come up when you are away at college. For this reason, you should ensure that you are getting the proper decorations you’ll need to make your space a home.

The above six ideas are a good starting point, but it’s largely going to depend on your unique tastes, so make sure you are taking those into account when shopping for home décor.

Either way, you will be set for the fall semester in your very own, home sweet home.

Happy shopping!
