How to conquer that awkward in-between-seasons phase

By Deanna Martino on September 25, 2012

You all know what I’m talking about; it’s happening right now. It’s not really summer anymore, but autumn hasn’t quite gotten into full swing. The weather changes daily, especially in Maryland, and it’s hard to decide what to wear so you don’t end up wishing you could change your outfit.

I suffer from this dilemma daily. I have early classes, and in the morning it’s freezing, but by the time I get out of class, the sun is high and I’m sweating on the walk home. Plus, the air conditioning is on in a lot of the buildings, so the temperature inside is usually sub-zero. So how do we conquer this conundrum? Layers!

I am obsessed with scarves and cardigans. It’s the easiest way to complete any outfit. Start with a basic, solid shirt – v-neck or tank top works well. Then add a coordinating scarf in a fun pattern or color, and a simple cardigan. Pair with jeans and you’re done. Easy.

The best part is, both scarves and cardigans are easy to put on and off, and you can style your scarf in a variety of ways so no two outfits never look the same.

If the scarf-cardigan option is a little too plain for you, try a leather jacket. You can find leather jackets in so many different styles and colors, you’re bound to find the perfect one for you. Paired with dark skinny jeans and boots, you can go for the tough, biker chick look, or soften it up with lace or a sundress.

I love that the leather jacket is so versatile. You can pair it with any combination to make it suit your personal style. A lot of people think they can’t pull it off, but try it! You might be surprised.

As we prepare for fall and all it has to offer, like pumpkin- and cinnamon-flavored everything, hopefully you can find an outfit to beat the fluctuations in weather, until it’s time to pull out the big sweaters and peacoats!

I am a junior print Journalism major, the managing editor of the Terrapin Yearbook, a member of the Beta Sigma chapter of Delta Gamma and I love everything from baking to sports to crafting to Harry Potter.
